  • The “Bring Your Own Cup” initiative focus on taking steps to being more sustainable and eco-friendly. This initiative has eliminated the use of 18,000 paper cups and 5,000 plastic water bottles annually. Since June 2018, Henkel Singapore has completely switched to solar energy for all its electrical. This is expected to save around 102 tons of CO2 emissions annually, which is equal to saving around 45 round-trip plane rides between Singapore to Shanghai worth of emissions.
Additionally, Henkel has switched to recycled paper, increased aircon temperatures on sites and has successfully implemented daily earth hour from 12pm to 1pm. The use of centralized waste bins has helped save 13,000 trash bags every year.
Henkel Singapore has also launched a campaign to encourage employees to set up a recycling corner at home. As an incentive, employees who share pictures of their home recycling corners on Yammer will each receive a $20 CapitaLand voucher.
Furthermore, Henkel’s Sustainability Ambassadors have been visiting preschools every year on World Water Day to teach young children simple tips to be sustainable at home. In 2018, the program with Little Footprints Preschool went beyond the classroom with the sponsorship of the ‘Be a Bucket Filler’ Journal that encourages students to put their learnings into practice. Henkel has also been supporting the Bukit View Secondary School in its sustainability outreach efforts targeting primary and secondary school children. In 2019, Henkel Singapore has partnered Nurture Education Group, Girl Guides Singapore and Fernvale Gardens School to conduct school visits to spread the message of water conservation as well as reduce, reuse and recycle to 235 children across the ages of 5 to 13 years old.
On World Water Day on 22 March, Henkel employees teamed up with Girl Guides to conduct lessons at various Little Footprints Preschool and Kiddiwinkie Schoolhouse under the Nurture Education Group.
Subsequently on 29 March, Henkel employees visited the MINDS – Fernvale Gardens School, one of four special education schools set up by the Movement for the Intellectually Disabled in Singapore (MINDS), to conduct the sustainability lesson.
Overall, since 2016, Henkel Singapore has reached more than 2398 school children through our school projects.
Henkel also actively supports the sustainability efforts of other organizations. On Henkel Day 2018, our employees participated in coastal cleanup and debris sample collection at Tanah Merah Beach to support the research project on marine waste under the National University of Singapore (NUS)‒NParks Marine Debris Monitoring Programme.
In 2018, Henkel is a supporting partner for Eco-business ‘From Asia to Antarctica’ documentary’ and Henkel Singapore organised a movie day to show this documentary. Colleagues in both offices learned about how warming temperatures are affecting ecosystems in Antarctica and the impact on Asia through the ‘From Asia to Antarctica’ documentary. Colleagues felt very inspired to take climate action by viewing the through-provoking documentary.

In 2018, to celebrate Henkel’s 142nd birthday, employees visited the Sustainable Singapore Gallery (SSG) on a guided tour to learn about Singapore initiatives to move towards a more sustainable nation. Employees were also engaged by Professor Leo Tan from the National University of Singapore (NUS) and an ASEAN Biodiversity Hero, who shared with us his knowledge and efforts to bring about the conservation of Labrador Beach. Sivasothi N. from NUS Biological Sciences Department, shared more about the rich marine life around Singapore and how trash in the seas can threaten the ecosystem. Our collaboration with different educators allowed employees to enhance their knowledge on sustainability.
