History

The Ricoh group first mooted the idea of commemorating World Environment Day in 2006, and decided to do so by engaging their employees, customers, corporate neighbours and government partners to take action to reduce their impact on the environment on that day.

The first Eco Action Day in Singapore took place on 5 June 2007. Carried out in collaboration with the Singapore Environment Council (SEC), the first nationwide energy-saving campaign targeting the office sector was implemented. Eighteen organisations registered for the first ever Eco Action Day, including ten multinational organisations, a hospital and a school.

Organisations and individuals were urged to make pledges to cut their energy usage by switching off lights and raising the temperature of air-conditioning systems. Through the proactive participation of these organisations, the first Eco Action Day catalysed nearly 6,000 kWh of energy savings!

Since 2007, more than 1500 organisations have participated in Eco Action Day.
